World's Largest Holocaust Survivor Family Organization, Generations of the Shoah International (GSI), Prepares for 10th Anniversary Activities
Generations of The Shoah International (GSI) (http://www.genshoah.org), a nonprofit, all-volunteer worldwide network of children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2012 with a year-long series of online educational programs featuring well-known speakers and important films. This series is open to the public.
Scheduled guests include (in alphabetical order): Robert Bielsky, Jean-Richard Bodon, Alan Elsner, Helen Epstein, Deb Filler, Martin Fletcher, Martin Goldsmith, Annette Insdorf, Aviva Kempner, Gerda Weissmann Klein, Kim Masters, Miriam Morsel Nathan, Thane Rosenbaum, Nava Semel, Bernice Steinhardt and Mindy Weisel.
GSI was founded in 2002 by nine people in seven cities, and has rapidly grown since then, serving as a bridge between the survivor community and the major Holocaust-related organizations and institutions globally.
"GSI is now the largest Holocaust survivor family organization in the world, and we've done it without collecting dues or donations and without a bureaucratic structure," said GSI Co-Founder and Newsletter Editor Esther Finder of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a U.S. State Department representative for the survivor community at the Holocaust Era Assets Conference in Prague in 2009.
"We are linked together with the common goals of preserving and honoring our legacy, including public education about the Holocaust and providing emotional support to our members. We are dedicated to sharing information and resources, advocating for survivors? rights, and promoting Holocaust education and remembrance. GSI provides the fastest, most effective access to the international Holocaust survivor community," said Finder.

"During 2012 GSI will host monthly public programs in conjunction with our 10th anniversary. We will showcase the talents and contributions of members of the survivor community to the arts and society. Our speakers are either survivors or descendants of survivors who have made noteworthy contributions to our society," explained Finder.

January 2012: Author and journalist Helen Epstein, who has written a half dozen books including Children of the Holocaust and her latest, Where She Came From: A Daughter's Search for Her Mother's History.
February: The Academy Award-winning documentary, One Survivor Remembers, with Holocaust survivor, author and humanitarian Gerda Weissmann Klein.
March: Journalist Alan Elsner, author of The Nazi Hunter and Guarded by Angels about his father?s Holocaust experiences.
April: Robert Bielsky, son of survivor Tuvia Bielski whose partisan family story was the subject of the award-winning 2008 Hollywood motion picture, Defiance and several books.
May: NBC-TV News Middle East correspondent, Martin Fletcher, author of The List and Walking Israel, A Personal Search for the Soul of a Nation.
June: Internationally renowned educator, Annette Insdorf, Professor in the Columbia University Graduate Film Program and author of Indelible Shadows: Film and Holocaust among other books.
July: Mindy Weisel, artist and author of Daughters of Absence: Transforming a Legacy of Loss and other books. Several of the women who contributed to Daughters of Absence will also attend: comedian Deb Filler, playwright Nava Semel, journalist Kim Masters and poet Miriam Morsel Nathan.
August: A 25th anniversary screening of the feature film by Aviva Kempner, Partisans of Vilna. Kempner will talk about this and her other films.
September: Thane Rosenbaum, law professor, advocate for aging survivors in need and author of a half dozen books including Second Hand Smoke, Elijah Visible, The Golems of Gotham and The Myth of Moral Justice.
October: The film, Through the Eye of the Needle -- The Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz, with an appearance by filmmaker Nina Shapiro-Perl and Esther Krinitz's daughter, Bernice Steinhardt.
November: Martin Goldsmith, Director of Classical Music for XM Satellite Radio and former host of NPR's Performance Today will talk about his book The Inextinguishable Symphony about his parents? survival as members of an
all-Jewish orchestra set up by the Nazis.
December: The documentary film, Leon Blum: For All Mankind, about Holocaust survivor and former French Prime Minister Leon Blum. His grandson along with filmmaker Jean-Richard Bodon will participate in the program.
