python - Unexpected StandardScaler fit_transform output -

i trying scale pandas series standardscaler().fit_transform(). however, output array of zeros.

the input series has length of 201, when do:

print values[:5] 

i list of floats below:

0    1943.0 1     508.0 2    1657.0 3     872.0 4     693.0 

when apply scaler:

x = preprocessing.standardscaler().fit_transform(values) print x 

output:
